COMPLETE COLLECTION OF 120 STICKERS - DON QUIJOTE DE LA MANCHA CHOCOLATE AMATLLER (1898)The collection of Don Quixote stickers from 1897 by Chocolates Amatller is one of the most important and oldest in the history of collecting in Spain. This is a series of 120 stickers that reproduce Jaime Pahissas illustrations for the 1897 edition of Don Quixote by Miguel Seguí. The stickers were distributed in four series (A, B, C and D) with 30 stickers each, which are could obtain by purchasing Amatller brand chocolate bars. The stickers represent the most famous and emblematic scenes of Cervantes work, with a realistic and detailed style. The collection was a great success and became a cultural and artistic reference of the time. However, it also generated a legal controversy between the lithographer Carlos Labielle, who obtained Seguís authorization to reproduce Pahissas illustrations, and Pahissa himself, who demanded financial compensation for the use of his drawings. The litigation was resolved in favor of Lipielle after five years. Today, the collection of Don Quixote stickers from 1897 by Chocolates Amatller is highly valued and sought after by collectors, since it is difficult to find a complete series in good condition.
